What Is Claude Design?
A Marketer's Guide

Anthropic's new design product turns conversation into one-pagers, slides, and prototypes. Here is what marketers actually do with it.

The Bottom Line

Claude Design is a fast way to go from a written brief to a visual draft. Marketers use it for one-pagers, pitch decks, and landing-page concepts. It is not a Canva replacement. Anthropic says it is meant to complement Canva. Use it as the rough-draft step in your content workflow, then finish in your usual tools and publish through your content platform.

What Claude Design Actually Is

Claude Design launched in research preview on April 17, 2026. It is a conversational design product from Anthropic Labs, powered by Claude Opus 4.7. You start from a text prompt, upload images and documents (DOCX, PPTX, XLSX), or point Claude at your codebase. Claude generates prototypes, slides, one-pagers, and landing-page concepts. You refine through more conversation or by editing directly. When you are happy, you export the result as standalone HTML, a PDF, an internal URL, a PPTX file, or send it to Canva for finishing.

Anthropic explicitly designed it for "founders and product managers without a design background." Marketers fit that description more often than not. You ship one-pagers and decks all the time, but most marketers do not have a design degree.

This is not Figma. It is not Canva. It is a separate category. Design through conversation, with Claude doing the layout work behind the scenes.

What Marketers Build With It

Landing-page mockups

Sketch a hero, feature grid, and CTA from a written brief in minutes. Export to URL or hand off to a developer.

Pitch decks

Outline the deck in conversation, get slide drafts back, refine wording, then export PPTX or send to Canva.

One-pagers

Sales sheets, product overviews, internal briefs. The format Claude Design was built for.

Pricing-page concepts

Try three different pricing layouts before you commit. Compare side-by-side as URLs.

How the Workflow Looks

The flow is conversational, not click-and-drag. You write a description such as "a one-pager for our developer-tools launch, three benefits, dark theme, ends with a free-trial CTA." Claude generates the first draft. You reply with adjustments — "move the CTA to the top, change the hero from blue to terracotta" — and the design updates. Repeat until it is right.

Two features matter for marketers in particular. First, Claude Design can read a codebase or design files and apply the design system. If your team has a brand kit in Figma or component tokens in code, Claude reuses them. Second, you can maintain multiple design systems (a campaign brand, a product brand, a content-marketing brand) and switch between them in conversation.

When you are done, you export. Standalone HTML for handing a self-contained file to a developer. PDF for static distribution. Internal URL for shareable previews and team review. PPTX when finance or sales needs to present the deck themselves. Or push to Canva when someone on the team wants to refine in a familiar editor.

When the draft is ready to build for real, Claude packages everything into a handoff bundle that pipes straight into Claude Code with a single instruction. That handoff is the bridge between Claude Design (the visual brief) and a production page or component on your real stack. It is the feature that distinguishes Claude Design from generic AI design tools, and it is included in the same paid plans that already include Claude Code.

Where Canva Still Wins

Anthropic stated clearly that Claude Design is "intended to complement" Canva, not replace it. That framing matches reality. Canva is better for finishing work — refining typography, swapping in stock photography from a curated library, applying the dozens of small visual decisions that make a draft look shipped.

Canva is also stronger for team collaboration on finished designs, brand kit enforcement at the asset level, and the kind of one-off social graphics where a template is faster than a conversation.

The real workflow most marketers will land on: Claude Design for the rough draft, Canva for the polish. Push from one to the other through Claude Design's built-in Canva export.

What It Costs

Claude Design is an Anthropic Labs product available to Claude paid subscribers, not a separate product line. As of April 2026 it is in research preview for Claude Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise plans. Pro is $17 per month billed annually or $20 per month billed monthly. Max starts at $100 per month. Team is $20 per seat per month billed annually.

There is no Claude Design free tier. If you are already paying for Claude Pro, you have it. If you are not, the cheapest path in is Pro at $17 per month annual.

Where Claude Design Ends, And What Comes Next

Claude Design solves the visual-artifact step. It does not solve content production or distribution. The decks and one-pagers it makes are inputs to a marketing workflow, not outputs of one.

Once a one-pager is shipped, you still need to write blog content around the launch, draft social posts on each platform, schedule them, and learn from what worked. That is where a content platform sits.

Brand Brain is built for that step. AI research, brand-voice writing, multi-platform scheduling, and the content workflow that runs around the visuals you ship from Claude Design and Canva. The clean split:

  • Claude Design — first-draft visuals from a written brief
  • Canva — finishing visuals and brand assets
  • Brand Brain — content research, brand-voice writing, scheduling, publishing
  • Your social platforms — distribution

None of these tools replaces the others. The trick is choosing each for what it is genuinely good at.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Claude Design?

Claude Design is a conversational design product from Anthropic Labs, launched in research preview on April 17, 2026. It is powered by Claude Opus 4.7. You describe what you want in plain language, upload existing images or documents (DOCX, PPTX, XLSX), or point Claude at your codebase. Claude generates prototypes, slides, one-pagers, and landing-page concepts. You can apply a design system from your codebase or files, then export results as standalone HTML files, PDFs, internal URLs, PPTX files, or send them to Canva for finishing. When a design is ready to build, Claude packages everything into a handoff bundle that you can pass to Claude Code with a single instruction.

Can marketers use Claude Design?

Yes. Anthropic positions Claude Design for founders and product managers without a design background, which describes most marketers shipping one-pagers, decks, and landing-page mockups. The conversational workflow fits how marketers think. Describe the goal, iterate on the output, export when ready. Best for first-draft visuals, not final brand assets.

How is Claude Design different from Canva?

Anthropic states Claude Design is intended to complement Canva, not replace it. Claude Design is faster for going from idea to first draft through conversation. Canva is stronger for refining brand assets, working with stock libraries, and team collaboration on finished designs. Claude Design exports directly to Canva, so many marketers use both: Claude for the rough draft, Canva for the polish.

What can you build with Claude Design?

Prototypes, slides and pitch decks, landing-page mockups, one-pagers, sales sheets, pricing pages, and product-feature visuals. Anthropic highlights prototypes, slides, and one-pagers as the core use cases. Anything that needs a structured visual layout from a written brief is a strong fit. Long-form brand campaigns and detailed photo composites still belong in tools like Canva or Figma.

How much does Claude Design cost?

Claude Design is included with Claude Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise plans during research preview. As of April 2026, Claude Pro is $17 per month billed annually or $20 per month billed monthly. Max starts at $100 per month. Team plans start at $20 per seat per month billed annually. There is no separate Claude Design subscription. Access comes with the Claude plan.

Can Claude Design apply my brand to designs?

Yes. Claude Design can read a company codebase or design files and apply the design system across new projects. Teams can maintain multiple design systems and have Claude switch between them. For brand voice in copy that lives inside those designs, you still need a separate process. Claude Design handles the visual structure, not the voice.

Where does Claude Design fit in a marketer's stack?

Use it for the visual artifact step in your content workflow. A typical stack: Claude Design for one-pagers and decks, Canva for finishing and brand assets, a writing tool for blog and social copy, and a content platform like Brand Brain for research, brand-voice writing, scheduling, and publishing. Claude Design replaces the rough-draft design step. It does not replace your social scheduler or content workflow.

Beautiful visuals are the start.
Consistent publishing is the job.

Brand Brain handles the research, brand-voice writing, and multi-platform scheduling that runs around the designs you ship from Claude Design and Canva.
